THE HISTORY OF THE INSTITUT AGRICOLE RÉGIONAL
Since 1951…
The Institut Agricole Régional’s deep roots date back to 1951, when the then Regional Council decided to entrust the task of founding and managing the École Pratique d’Agriculture to the Congregation of the Great Saint Bernard Canons.
For years a reference point for agricultural production in Aosta Valley, the Institut Agricole Régional is a private-law foundation which carries out not only technical and vocational education and training in the agricultural field, but also research and experimentation in the agronomical, economic, fruit, wine, zoo-technical and dairy sectors, paying particular attention to sustainability and environmental protection.
1951
The Institut Agricole Régional (IAR) was founded in 1951 in Aosta as École Pratique d’Agriculture, under the Canons of the Great Saint Bernard Hospice’s management, following the need to establish a vocational training school in the agricultural sector.

1982
In 1982, the Regional Law 1st June 1982 n° 12 marks the birth of the Foundation named Institut Agricole Régional, constituted by the Great Saint Bernard Hospice and the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley.
Primarily known for its activity in the viticultural, fruit growing and dairy sectors, the Institute has evolved over time, carrying out not only technical-vocational education and training activities, but also research and experimentation in the agricultural field.
… to the present day
In addition to its role in teaching and education in the farming sector, the Institut Agricole Régional is a reference point for Aosta Valley’s agricultural and agri-food companies, thanks to its experimentation, research and technology transfer activities.
Researchers and technicians at IAR, in fact, have always been committed to characterising and developing local products, preserving biodiversity and studying the factors that influence the local farming products’ quality, safety and typicality.
