Simple research units (S.U.)
The experimentation sector is divided into seven Simple Units (S.U.):
• Agronomy S.U. and Economy S.U., combined in the Agro-Environment and Competitiveness Complex Unit (C.U.);
• Pomology S.U. and Viticulture-Enology S.U., combined in the Arboreal Cultivation C.U.;
• Analysis Laboratories S.U.;
• Development of Animal Products S.U.;
• Zootechnics S.U.;
The experimentation personnel, carrying out projects in which applied research and production are closely linked, consists of forty-five people: researchers, technicians and workmen. Among them, one fifth are young employees that have joined IAR in recent years, as evidence of gradual staff renewal, according to the Institute’s vision of research activities and experimentation projected towards the future.

Agronomy
The Institut Agricole Régional’s Agronomy Research Unit deals with field crops and local plant biodiversity preservation in the context of mountain agriculture.

Economy
The Economy S.U. is engaged in applied research topics linked to the subjects of agrarian economy, with reference to legislation, marketing and the issues of sustainability in the perspective of promoting local resources, both human and environmental.

Pomology
IAR’s Pomology S.U. is engaged in applied research topics linked to the subjects of fruit growing, with reference to the mountain-Alpine environment, in particular Aosta Valley’s one.

Analysis laboratories
The Analysis Laboratories S.U. works in support of IAR’s Simple Units, public bodies and local companies, carrying out applied research activities in the microbiological and biochemical sector.

Development of animal products
The Analysis Laboratories S.U. works in support of IAR’s Simple Units, public bodies and local companies, carrying out applied research activities in the microbiological and biochemical sector.

Viticulture-Enology
The Viticulture-Enology S.U. conducts management and control activities on grape processing for the different varieties and types of vinification. Experimental activity allows in-depth study of the various winemaking issues and a feasibility analysis of the latest findings on productive and commercial aspects.

Zootechnics
The Zootechnics S.U. seeks to achieve the basic purpose of studying and proposing, with respect for the environment and local traditions, technical solutions aimed at the development and enhancement of Aosta Valley’s forage crops.
